Terms
Terms of service
The agreement between you and Digital Brand Ventures LLC, which runs BoaterReady, when you use this site or take the course.
These terms are a working draft. They have not been reviewed by a lawyer and must be before launch.
Who we are
BoaterReady is run by Digital Brand Ventures LLC, a private company providing boater safety education. We are not a government agency, and we do not issue the state card or the temporary certificate ourselves — the state does, using the information we report.
Using the course
The course has no minimum age. If you are under 13, a parent or guardian must give consent before we can collect your personal details. You must give accurate information: a certificate issued in a name that is not yours is not valid.
Taking the exam honestly
The exam must be your own work. We compute progress and grading on our servers and keep records of how each certificate was earned. Certificates obtained by sharing answers or having somebody else sit the exam will be revoked, and the state notified.
Certification
Completing the lifetime course and passing its exam entitles you to a course completion certificate, and we report your completion so the state can issue your card. Passing the temporary certificate exam entitles you to proof of passing, and we send your details so the state can issue your temporary certificate. We cannot control how long the state takes, and we cannot guarantee any specific delivery date.
Payment and refunds
Prices are shown before you buy and charged once. Refunds are governed by our refund policy. We may change prices for future purchases, but never for one you have already made.
Limits
The course teaches boating safety; it does not make anyone a safe operator, and it is not a substitute for judgment on the water. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us.
Changes
If we change these terms we will update the date at the top. Material changes affecting existing students will be emailed rather than quietly published.
