Accessibility
Accessibility statement
This course is legally required of many of the people who take it. That means it has to work for all of them.
The standard we build to
WCAG 2.1 Level AA, checked as we build rather than audited afterwards. Accessibility rules are enforced as build errors in our tooling, not as warnings somebody can ignore.
Color and contrast
All body text is Deep Navy, which measures 13.9:1 against white. Our brighter brand colors — Bright Blue, Sunset Orange and Beacon Yellow — are used as fills, rules and icons, never as small text on a light background, because they fail AA there. Nothing on the site signals meaning by color alone: every state carries an icon and a word.
Keyboard and focus
Everything interactive is reachable and operable from a keyboard, with a visible focus ring at 3px and 2px offset. The site opens with a skip link, menus close on Escape and return focus to the control that opened them, and scrollable regions are focusable so their content can be reached.
Motion
There is very little movement, and what exists responds to you rather than looping on its own. The review wall pauses on hover and on keyboard focus and carries a pause control. Everything animated is disabled under the operating system's reduced-motion setting.
Media and images
Every image carries a text alternative, or is marked decorative when it adds nothing. Video lessons will not ship in a language without an approved caption track for that language — the data model enforces this rather than relying on someone remembering.
Where we fall short
The site and the course have not yet been tested with a full range of assistive technologies or audited by a third party. We would rather say that than imply a certification we do not hold.
Tell us what is broken
If something here does not work for you, email support@boaterready.com and describe what happened. We treat accessibility bugs as bugs, not as feature requests.
