What we collect, why we need it, and what we do not do with it.
This notice is a working draft describing what the system actually does. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and must be before launch.
What we collect
To issue a certificate the state will accept, we need your legal name, date of birth, email address and mailing address, and on the temporary route your phone number. While you take the course we record your progress, the time you spend, and your exam answers. If you buy, our payment provider handles your card details — they never reach our servers.
Why we need it
Your name and date of birth appear on the certificate. Your address is where the state mails your card. Progress and exam records exist because this is a regulated course and a state can audit how a certificate was earned. We are required to keep them.
Children under 13
The course has no minimum age, so we expect under-13 students. Until a parent or guardian gives verifiable consent, an account for a minor cannot hold a phone number, a marketing preference or an analytics identity — this is enforced by a database constraint, not by a form. Consent can be withdrawn by writing to us.
Who else sees it
We send your name, date of birth, mailing address and the date you passed to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which needs them to issue your card or temporary certificate; on the temporary route the state also requires your email address and phone number. Beyond that we use a small number of processors: a database and authentication host, a payment provider, an email service for sending certificates, and error and analytics tooling. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
How long we keep it
Certificates and the records behind them are kept for as long as the state may need to verify them, which outlasts your account. If you ask us to delete your account we anonymize it rather than erasing the certification record, because destroying that record would invalidate a legal document.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete what is not legally required. Email support@boaterready.com and we will respond within thirty days.
